avformat/libcurl: take the open result from the first reply Decide whether the open succeeded from the first reply only, so that a follow-up request that the loop thread has already started cannot fail the open after the first reply turned out usable. avformat/libcurl: don't issue requests that cannot return data Report EOF without a request when the requested offset is at or past the known file size or the end offset, and report an error instead of issuing the same request again when a reply that should continue the transfer delivered no data. avformat/libcurl: keep requesting when the file size is unknown Keep requesting from where each reply stopped when the file size is unknown ("Content-Range: bytes S-E/*"). Treat a 416 on such a follow-up request as EOF and take the size from its "bytes */N". A 416 that states a size past the requested offset is an error. A compressed reply is not continued, as its range counts compressed bytes. Signed-off-by: Kacper Michajłow <kasper93@gmail.com>Changed files

avformat/http: clear the status code before each request A request that fails before its reply arrives, such as a TLS connection through a proxy that refuses the tunnel, no longer carries the status of the previous reply. Signed-off-by: Kacper Michajłow <kasper93@gmail.com>

avformat/http: drop the old reply when seeking past the end Close the connection and empty the buffer when a seek past the end is answered without a request, so that neither the buffered bytes nor the connection of the old reply are used at the new offset. avformat/http: end a read at the end offset with EOF Take the end of the data as the end offset or the file size, whichever comes first, when telling a broken connection from the end of the data, so that reading up to the end offset ends with EOF instead of an I/O error. avformat/http: end or continue a reply at the end of its range End a compressed reply with EOF where its range ends instead of passing EAGAIN to the caller, as it is not continued with another request. A chunked one is marked as ended, so that later reads return EOF too instead of waiting for another chunk. Continue a chunked reply that ends at the end of its range before the end of the data with the next request, as a reply with a length already does. Category ffmpeg Changed by Andreas Menze <andreas.menze@hr.de> Changed at Mon 12 Oct 2026 22:42:25 Repository https://git.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.git Project ffmpeg Branch master Revision faab9c8e563ea3b3d8f27c17febbeecd3ade2f1e Comments
avformat/http: keep complete size for Content-Range "bytes A-B/*" "bytes A-B/*" means the complete length is unknown (RFC 9110 14.4), so don't read it as a size of 0, and never derive the complete size from a partial reply. Remember it once learned from a 200 Content-Length or a "bytes A-B/N" total and reuse it for later "*" replies. If the complete size was never learned, or the total is not a number, it stays unknown. A 416 to a read or a seek past the end of a resource of unknown size ends it with EOF and gives its complete length ("bytes */N"), unless it states a length past the requested offset. That 416 is retried first only if reconnect_on_http_error lists 416 by number, reconnect_at_eof does not retry the end it marks, and an open past the end is retried as configured. Keep the file size and the complete size when a request fails. A seek that fails or is refused keeps the offset and the end of the resource, and when reading goes on over the old connection, also the range end, chunk state, connection mode and compression of the old reply. A seek to the current offset makes a new request when there is no connection. Fixes #24210 Signed-off-by: Kacper Michajłow <kasper93@gmail.com>Changed files

avformat/http: read the whole trailer section of a chunked reply Read the lines after the last chunk up to the empty line that ends the trailer section, instead of only the first one, so that the next request on the same connection does not read trailer fields as its status line. avformat/http: clear the end of a chunked reply for every request Clear the end of the chunked encoding for every request, so that a chunked reply after a seek or a reconnect is read when an earlier chunked reply has ended, and restore it with the rest of the old reply when a seek fails. avformat/http: check every reply against the requested range Skip the check that a reply starts at the requested offset only for the replies that are answered with another request, the redirects that are followed and the authentication challenges, instead of for every reply that carries a Location header. Reset the range end for every Content-Range field, so that a reply with several of them cannot combine the offset of one with the range end of another. A ranged reply with a Location header can no longer hand its data over at the wrong offset, and a challenge to a request at an offset is answered instead of failing it. avformat/http: stop at the end offset or the end of the file Stop reading, and answer a seek past the end without a request, at the end offset or the file size, whichever comes first. An end offset past the end of the file no longer leads to a request past it. Signed-off-by: Kacper Michajłow <kasper93@gmail.com>
